Improve Tasks

Problem to solve

Unless I'm missing something, I find Tasks are hidden too deep in the description text box and this is very slow and laborious when adding and editing tasks. This could be due to the fact that markdown is required. Just a simple thing like creating a new task requires writing out "* [ ]" each time, when it should just be a push of the Enter button.

Intended users

  • Parker (Product Manager)

  • Sasha (Software Developer)
  • Presley (Product Designer)

Further details

If you compare this to how Clubhouse and Trello do this, it's a lot easier to add tasks

Proposal

As part of the vision is:

"make it faster and easier for groups of contributors to deliver value to their users"

This will improve the speed and use for the average person to add tasks.

I did a quick scrappy mock-up of a suggestion on how to include it on the right. The journey includes the following:

  1. A user creates an Issue by filling in Title and Description. The adds tasks accordingly by tagging relevant team members.

Alternatively, I would A/B test to see if it makes more sense to have Tasks underneath the description, which allows more space accordingly

Documentation

This will adjust dependencies on the "Tasks Completed" function and would require depreciation out of the description. There is always a consideration to create subtasks and weighting, however I would start with the MVC for now and extend thereafter.

Testing

What does success look like, and how can we measure that?

An increase in the number of tasks created.

What is the type of buyer?
