Should we externalise product names?
I noticed that we have quite a few instances of product names in our translation files, but those are very rarely translated (using ripgrep
there):
$ rg --no-filename --after-context=1 \
'msgid "(Akismet|Kubernetes|Xcode)"' \
locale/**/*.po | sort | uniq -c
138 msgid "Akismet"
138 msgid "Kubernetes"
138 msgid "Xcode"
388 msgstr ""
7 msgstr "Akismet"
13 msgstr "Kubernetes"
5 msgstr "Xcode"
1 msgstr "අකිස්මෙට්"
Those are just 3 examples. Others can be found with for example rg --glob='*.{haml,js,rb,vue}' --no-filename --only-matching "_\('\w+'\)" | sort | uniq -c | sort
and then ignoring words from the English dictionary.
Is it intended that such proper names get externalised in our code and translated?
