Give users an easy way to migrate from Artifactory/Sonatype to GitLab
Problem Statement
We frequently hear from buyers, that they want to consolidate applications and migrate all of their project management onto GitLab. The problem is that we do not currently:
- Help buyers understand if that's possible and if not why
- Help administrators understand how to do that and what the challenges are
- Give developers an easy way to complete the migration
- Let administrators and buyers know if/when the migration has been completed
Reach
This impacts new and existing customers that would like to use the GitLab Package Registry and can't because a lack of features or a dependency on their existing solution.
We are currently underestimating SMAU for the package stage. But we can approximate usage with page views. Currently 850 users navigate to /package_registry per day.
3.0 = Significant reach (~25% to ~50%)
Impact
- We can help our buyers by helping them to lower their total costs and overhead by consolidating all of their package management needs on GitLab.
- We can help GitLab sales by empowering them with documentation they can share with buyers walking them through how to migrate to GitLab's Package Registry.
- We can help improve user experience by providing an easy path to migration and ensure that developers have a positive first experience with the Package Registry.
2.0 = High impact
Confidence
We know this is a problem based on feedback from customers and prospects. But, we don't yet have a good size of how many customers this actually impacts and if this is a problem that we can solve in the near-term.
80% = Medium confidence
Effort
To be determined. We are hopeful that we can find an MVC that will be valuable and not require us solving all of the problems all at once.
