Overview

UX Roadmaps are a strategic, living artifact that aligns, prioritizes, and communicates a Product Design team's future work and problems to solve. UX roadmaps should act as a single source of truth for your team's North Star vision serving as the blueprint for your strategy.

Please read the UX Theme documentation prior to planning this exercise.

Objectives

  1. Generate a Stage group UX/Goal and Vision for the year
  2. Generate a UX Themes that can be used to create your Group's direction/roadmap for the year
  3. Share the UX Vision with your team

Who to include

When creating UX Themes, you want to include everyone who would directly contribute to or consume the information from your groups UX direction. (e.g., Design managers, UX Researchers, etc.,)

Pre-workshop activities

Setup

📆 Due: 1 week before the workshop

  • Watch this video introducing the concepts of UX Roadmaps [~5min]
  • Familiarize yourself with the UX Roadmap documentation [~15min]
  • Assign this workshop issue to participating team members
  • In FigJam copy the UX Theme workshop template into the stage’s Room. Update the link to the FigJam board in the table at the top of this issue
  • Create a 2-hour meeting, inviting the workshop participants. Link this issue in the invite and include a mention about the homework activities.
  • Create 2 comment threads for collecting inputs below. 1 thread for Goals & vision inputs and 1 thread for theme inputs. Link the threads to the related tasks in #2 gathering inputs table.

  • Set the appropriate milestone range based on the prioritization activity in the workshop.
  • Label the issues with the appropriate section/stage/group/category labels and include UX Theme
  • Place Theme issues in a new UX Roadmap epic or existing product roadmap epic

Socialize UX Themes

📆 Due: 5 days after the workshop

  • Socialize the generated themes/direction using one of the two methods below:
    • Synchronous: Set up a recorded call with the PM, EM, and other stable counterparts in the stage to walk through your UX Themes. Using this board, filter on your group to remove other team's themes. Walkthrough your themes in the order you expect to work on them left to right, jumping into the theme issues for more definition.
    • Async: If counterparts cannot attend, record yourself walking through your UX Themes using this board, filter on your group to remove other team's themes. Walkthrough your themes in the order you expect to work on them left to right, jumping into the theme issues for more definition.
  • Post the recording to unfiltered and share the link to the group's Slack channel as well as the UX Channel for visibility.

Wrap-up
