Problem to solve

This is an internal issue to help the product team.

As a Product Manager, in order to find users interested in my features, I'd like to get them invited to user interviews while they use the product.

Intended users

As we are looking for our users, every persona counts.

Instead of personas, I'd target by user types:

  • paying customers' insights are more valuable
  • self-managed and gitlab.com users are 2 distinct groups

Definition of Done

  1. User can see a banner on the serverless page.
  2. User can click link to survey or dismiss banner, either way a tracking cookie is set.
  3. Survey users arrive at a survey that is pre-filled with data that is relevant to them.
  4. User can complete survey.

Proposal

The Banner

Use our gl-banner component

When the user clicks the link or dismisses the banner, we store a cookie, and never show the banner again.

The linked form should be pre-filled with banner-related data:

  • topic of interest
  • source banner identifier

Testing

What does success look like, and how can we measure that?

As this is a request for feedback type feature, not getting any inputs means that there are probably no users using the feature. This is feedback already.

Taking a calibrated estimation approach, in the case of serverless for example, if I expect a 1-3% conversion rate, and get 1 user / month, that means there are around 33-100 users / month interested in serverless. (an estimate of SMAU)

What is the type of buyer?

In Starter.
