Experiment: UX - MVC add videos to continuous onboarding
Experiment summary
We believe that adding videos to the product will drive user engagement with the videos, leading to more free users adopting trials and more trial users adopting the features that we highlight.
To verify that, we will add videos to the Continuous Onboarding action items.
And we’ll measure the impact on trial adoption and feature adoption for the items that have videos.
Hypothesis
We believe adding video tutorials to the product will improve early product use, trial, and feature adoption, and lead to higher paid conversion rates downstream.
Business problem
Users learn through a multitude of ways: watching videos, reading content, training, structured learning, asking co-workers, and/or exploring themselves. We know video is a common format for GitLab users leverage to understand the product and to date, we haven't made video content available from within the product where the user is actively interacting and using product features.
By adding video content into the product, we believe we can help users understand product features faster and drive more product usage and adoption earlier in the user's product experience. Highlighting features that are available in trial and paid tiers will drive trial adoption and we believe this can also impact paid conversion rate downstream, which will directly impact the business.
Strategic Marketing has created a series of Premium and Ultimate videos for us to utilize in our MVC:https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-com/marketing/strategic-marketing/-/epics/397#note_832725391
Solution
Integrate video content into current Continuous Onboarding experience. An acceptable MVC UX could include a link that directed the user out to a new tab to watch the specific video.
Per discussion on https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-com/marketing/strategic-marketing/-/epics/397#note_846914745 the plan is to host these videos on about.gitlab.com/snapshots but it doesn't appear possible to link directly to those videos. If that's the case, we will link directly to the Vimeo videos.
