the documentation is "wrong". the first answer from https://forum.gitlab.com/t/authentication-fails-when-trying-to-mirror-gitlab-com-repo-to-github/3137 should be added somewhere, because if you want to mirror at least a gitlab selfhostet version and want to push to a github.com repo, yu have to create a access token and use a modified url instead of the git url. yu have to add username:accesstoken and also add the accesstoken to the password field.
