Run our serverless templates locally

Problem to solve

As a developer, in order to try & test my setup locally, I would like to run the frontend and backends code locally.

Intended users

  • Sasha (Software Developer)

Personas are described at https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/marketing/product-marketing/roles-personas/ -->

Further details

We are speaking about users using our serverless project templates, and we would like to provide them a simple tool to run their project locally.

Proposal

Question: what is the intended use of gitlabktl? To me it sounds like a cli product, but its current use case is more of a backend tool not to be used by final users.

Anyway, I imaging a tool that wraps Serverless and runs a small server to build and serve both the frontend and backend codes in the project. e.g. gitlabktl serverless serve

Permissions and Security

As its a local run, we have no permission questions.

Documentation

Document the usage of this tool

Testing

What does success look like, and how can we measure that?

  • get install statistics about our tool
  • get anonymous usage statistics about our tool (what commands are used?)

What is the type of buyer?

  • Core
