[DORA] Change `deployment_frequency` to measure frequency, not volume
Problem to solve
Currently the DORA4 Metrics API returns deployment_frequency
measured as: "The number of successful deployments during the time period." However, as explained by Google: "It would be simple and straightforward to ... grab the average number of deployments per [time period], but the metric is deployment frequency, not volume." Google gives the official definition as: "How frequently a team successfully releases to production, e.g., daily, weekly, monthly, yearly."
Proposal
The DORA4 Metrics API should be modified in 2 steps:
- Re-name
deployment_frequency
asdeployment_count
. - Add
deployment_frequency
as a new metric, with these possible values:minutely
hourly
daily
weekly
monthly
yearly
never
Out of scope
The Deployment Frequency metric in VSA is already "per day", so no change necessary:
