Data events and visualization for settings search

Problem to solve

We need to be able to measure usage of the in page settings search #294025 (closed).

Proposal

What do we want to gather

  • Search term used when displaying search results
    • Event name: Settings search results
    • Page URL
    • Event Category (Rails controller name for the current settings page)
  • Track settings page when displaying search results

Viewing data

[Insert Sisense dashboard link here]

  • Report on top unique 100 search terms per settings page

Expectations

  • We expect that the General page would have 80% of the number of searches
    • Assumption is that user may think this is a search that would search all pages and this would be investigated to see which search terms were used
  • Pages with low content density would make up the bottom 25% of usage
    • Hypothesis here is that search is not needed because the content is easily visible

How will the data be used?

  • Understand pages with high search usage to investigate why
  • If General has high usage then could be more rationale to push for a search across all settings
  • Search terms analysis per page could help inform better information architecture per page

Tasks

  • Implement in code necessary tracking
  • Create Sisense dashboard
