Docs - product feedback: Unnecessary spammy notifications for merge requests

Existing notification settings for merge requests cannot be controlled based on approver status.

As a developer of a large project, I have no choice to receive notifications only for merge requests for which I am a designated approver, and not receive notifications for other MRs.

We have tried to facilitate this by designating certain users as "owners" of certain parts of the code base. This correctly picks and choose who needs to be an approver depending on what code the MR touches. However, notifications are not filtered properly as a function of this choice.

Ultimately, if I select "On mention" for notifications, I get no notices of MRs until someone @ tags me in comments, and if I select "Participate", I get notices for every MR including the ones for which I am not an approver. There is no middle ground available in custom notification settings.

P.S.: If there is a way to achieve this granular control, please let me know, as I was unable to find it on my own through documentation or experimental configurations.
