Releases cannot be associated with a supergroup milestone
User scenario:
We use the release feature to track our releases. As our product consists of many projects in nested groups, we would like to track all the single releases in a "product" milestone, which is realized with a milestone at the top group level. Now the problem is: The top group milestone does not appear in the UI choice menu when creating a release in a subgroup of the top group level. It is also not possible to associate the release using the gitlab API.
We would have expected this to work seamlessly, as milestones are documented as the way to organize releases. This is heavily affecting our release management, as gitlab provides no native way to organize scattered releases. We would need to track releases which belong together in a file, which is extremely cumbersome, slowing down our release process and adding manual steps.
Proposal
Allow to associate project releases (via API and UI) to any ancestor group's milestones.
