Provide the Community with greater insight into the Package vision and strategy
Context
As the PM for the Package stage, I often find myself in customer or prospect meetings. Typically, I will review the Package direction page which provides an overview of the vision and strategy for the stage. Next, I'll review the Package maturity targets which provide a prioritized roadmap for how we plan to achieve our ambitious vision.
When I am talking about a specific feature, such as virtual registries, I will pull up a clickable prototype in Figma that our amazing UX designer @icamacho put together.
When I am talking with an existing customer about a recent incident, I often get asked about our testing strategy.
Finally, I find it helpful to share a link to the Package Group page which has a series of links to demos and speedruns.
Proposal
I propose that we improve the Package direction page by:
- Move to one 'What's next and why` section instead of one for each category. This will make it easier to read and present.
- Help customers understand our vision by adding more visuals to the page. Consider including designs that represent the complete maturity target for that category.
- Give customers confidence that the Package features are reliable and secure. Consider linking to the risk maps and any other relevant info.
- Be transparent about what's in progress now. We do share links to maturity targets but consider also sharing a link to the functional workflow board.
This issue will focus on the Package and Container registries as well as the Dependency Proxy.
