UX Discovery on WAF rule management
Problem to solve
Users want to use custom rule sets for the WAF, beyond what is included with the Core Rule Set. Today, they are unable to provide their own rule set which means they cannot do this. We will offer a minimal way to define custom rules but we haven't formed and validated a set of longer-term hypotheses to guide future product iterations
Intended users
Proposal
Perform discovery work to understand the type of experience we ultimately want to offer to users as part of customizing the rules for the WAF.
Some questions to answer:
- What drives the need to customize rules?
- Are users familiar enough with rules that they feel comfortable editing text?
- Is a full GUI experience for rule management needed?
- Are there things in the space that competitors are doing that we should either mimic or avoid?
What does success look like, and how can we measure that?
This issue should be considered a success if we:
-
Answer the above questions -
Propose and answer new questions -
Created follow-on issues, for more specific discovery and/or implementation of an improvement over the current state
