Support OpenSearch as Advanced Search backend

NOTE: Will Be supported in GitLab 15.0

Release notes

GitLab now officially supports OpenSearch (formerly known as Open Distro for Elasticsearch) as an advanced search backend.

Problem to solve

GitLab SM admins want to use OpenSearch (formerly known as Open Distro for Elasticsearch) instead of Elastic's Elasticsearch. Also on AWS environment, GitLab SM admins will use Amazon OpenSearch Service, which would be a successor of Amazon Elasticsearch Service.

Intended users

  • Sidney (Systems Administrator)
  • Priyanka (Platform Engineer)

User experience goal

GitLab SM admin is able to use Amazon OpenSearch Service (or self-managed OpenSearch instance) as a backend for advanced search.

Proposal

CI with OpenSearch.
