Connection between new issues and related issues from board view

Problem to solve

Overwhelming amount of double work and switching between pages in order to link issues together. In order to break down epic cards into smaller cards, you need to create a new card, save it, then copy the url and paste into the related box on the original "epic"/parent card.

Intended users

Sprint planning members of a team, more specifically iteration managers. This feature will also enhance the visibility into which cards are related from the same view.

  • Parker (Product Manager)
  • Delaney (Development Team Lead)
  • Sasha (Software Developer)
  • Presley (Product Designer)
  • Devon (DevOps Engineer)

Personas are described at https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/marketing/product-marketing/roles-personas/ -->

Further details

You have just created your first epic card and now want to start spinning off tasks quickly from the board view, using the "plus sign" to create new cards. You start in the title box for the card with "#" then the issue number for the parent card to relate the current issue back to it. Create the card and move on so that in the board view you have more task cards than epic cards and can very quickly at a glance identify relationships between issues so that the team can enhance agility through development efforts.

Proposal

Enhance the speed in which a user may connect cards to parents and at a glance heighten the ability to very quickly identify the relationships between cards. So much time is currently wasted connecting issues to the parent.

Format of Card title: [#issueNumberOfParent:titleOfChildIssue]

Permissions and Security

Anyone that has the ability to view the parent/epic card and to create issues in the current project

Testing

What does success look like, and how can we measure that?

Implementation of this feature 💯

What is the type of buyer?

GOLD TIER. This will be the main differentiation for people on the fence between GL and GH
