Search Suggestions Not interactive during initial query

Summary

When using Google Chrome on Windows, it appears that the search field doesn't have focus until you've clicked a suggestion once. You then have to go in and re-type something to re-initiate the query, and THEN the search is clickable.

Steps to reproduce

  • Use a Windows 10 machine running Google Chrome (This sometimes can be reproduced on MacBook & Google Chrome but not consistently)
  • Start typing something into the search bar in GitLab. (This must be something that will cause a suggestion.)

image

  • Click the suggestion.
  • This is where the error is, INSTEAD of taking you into the project you clicked on. It just leaves the blank populated and takes you no where.

  • Then, if you delete the 't' in the search string and retype it, the prompt comes back again with the suggestion.

image

  • Click the suggestion.
  • The suggestion now works as expected, but only ever on the SECOND time you get the prompt to show up. It's almost as if the search fields needs to be focused using a click, and clicked again to actually work.

What is the expected correct behavior?

  • You should only need to interact with the search element once.
