Docs feedback: Gitlab.example.com is very confusing for beginners.

Link the doc and describe what is wrong with it.

Whole documents speak about gitlab.example.com and no where it speaks about how to pull your user if you are just a general user using gitlab.com directly. For example my user is called paragon. So it would be gitlab.com/paragon/api/v4?

I don't know where to place my username in any of the API requests.
