A way to disable auto-add to To Do on nick mention

I think the To Do page is an interesting idea, but it misbehaves heavily with its "auto-add a To Do when someone mentions the nick in a comment".
An obvious side effect is that random people can pollute fine-tuned real To Do list managed by the user, which makes the To Do useless quite quickly.
It also doesn't look nice when I try to explain every single user that they do not need to mention me, because the way GitLab works only adds more work for me to get rid of it. Either I need to reply to their comment or I need to go to the To Do list, find their auto-added item and tick it out. Do you see that, it's just more work with absolutely no gain, just wasting my time. I'm talking about comments like this:

Yes, it's not the first time I wrote such similar response to comments of that kind, where people really do not need anything from me, they just want to be nice and thank me. But GitLab thinks it's a To Do item, which it is not.
I went through the account settings and didn't find anything for it to disable that odd behaviour. The closest was with mail notifications, to send them only when I'm mentioned in the comment, but it's not what I'm looking for, I want all the mail notifications as I receive them (where I participate), this is about auto-added To Do items, which are not To Do items at all.
Thanks for consideration.
