Clarify and document support for Rancher
Users, including large Premium customers, are interested in using Rancher for container orchestration as part of a GitLab + Kubernetes solution.
Currently no official documentation or instructions on using Rancher + Kubernetes + GitLab exists in terms of installation or Kubernetes cluster integration.
Third-party documentation sources appear to be: https://rancher.com/tags/gitlab/ and unofficial blog posts, with very little published or updated in 2019.
In providing Support, this blocks a Docs-first methodolgy. It can also complicate the ability to troubleshoot and provide support as both users and Support Engineers are dependent on external resources.
If supporting Rancher is a goal (now or in the future), I suggest we begin tracking any potential Rancher-specific issues, considerations, workarounds or fixes and record them in our documentation. This will ensure that users are aware of any potential complications or problems that can arise to using Rancher in their stack, and ensure Support Engineers are able to point customers to reliable documentation.
If GitLab officially does not support Rancher as part of the stack, this should be documented this point should be clarified in our statement of support.
