Logs are truncated

This happens especially often, but not always, when a job fails. The remaining few lines of the log are not shown. In general, there's a huge disconnect between stderr and stdout: things that are close to each other time-wise appear very far apart.

This has nothing to do with another bug: the hard limit on log size. The logs that get truncated are shorter than the limit.
