Proposal

The mermaid-js project provides a live editor you can use to make a diagram. It a WYSIWYG editor with some canned examples.

At the bottom of several textarea edit boxes that support markdown there are links to documentation on Markdown. Perhaps there could also be a link to a locally hosted version of this standalone Mermaid editor - either below the textarea or in the Markdown docs (or both).

Obviously it might be even better if the editor could preload a diagram (or provide a choice of diagrams) from what you're editing, but that seems like something for later.

Intended users

This would be useful for developers and others. It would also help anyone new to graphviz or mermaid.

User experience goal

The goal would be to see more people using mermaid diagrams and lee people linking in png/svg/etc type files that are harder to edit and make use of.

Further details

It will draw more people in to using gitlab at the design stage.

Permissions and Security

Any logged in user should be able to use this.

What does success look like, and how can we measure that?

Customers shuld see a drop off in larger graphics or application files added to tickets and code reviews.
