Problem to solve

As we deprecate GitLab Managed Apps v1, and want to move towards allowing our users to bring their own apps, we should provide a recommended way of installing and configuring the apps we want to support.

As a Platform Engineer, I want to install Prometheus so I can gather various metrics in and outside of my cluster.

Proposal

• Recommend the Cluster Management Project for a quick-start. See #327908 (closed)
• Reference the customizations of the Cluster Management Project for advanced installation.

We already have such documentation for Manual configuration of Prometheus .

The minimum we can do is link to that.

If I were to install Prometheus using a cluster management project pipeline, would the Manual configuration of Prometheus instructions work to attach that Prometheus it to GitLab?

Yes, but you will need to perform additional steps to first expose that Prometheus to GitLab. (This involves setting up a Service to expose the prometheus to the outside world, usually)
