Web PDF viewer makes Firefox unresponsive

Summary

When showing PDF files with several 100 pages the web PDF viewer of Gitlab makes the browser unresponsiv.

Steps to reproduce

It is hard to reproduce, because it depends on the used hardware. On newer hardware with much memory this might be no problem. But on older hardware the browser becomes unresponsive, because the PDF viewer over challenges the browser.

What is the current bug behavior?

Browser gets unresponsive. Closing the tab with the PDF preview fixes the problem.

What is the expected correct behavior?

Browser should be responsive.

Possible fixes

The problem can be solved by an option to disable the PDF viewer. Or the PDF viewer could limit the preview in that way, that it shows just one page.
