No Indication Whenever Admin Permissions Override Project Settings

As an admin of our onprem-instance I can't see if I do have the permissions to do something on a specific project or if my admin status only allows me to do it.

For example, we have a project with 'Protected Branches' settings only allowing a bot account to merge. As an Admin, I do not 'see' that I should not be able merge. The permanent admin permissions just allow me to see and trigger the merge button.

Are there any best practices how gitlab intends to work with admin accounts? Please keep in mind we have a premium license, so every seat costs money. Additionally, we have multiple admins and we do not want to share one admin account for all users (this would break the usefulness of the audit log!). Many other tools allow to 'switch' into admin mode to temporarily work with elevated permissions. Are there any plans to do support this in gitlab, too?
