Provide the ability to create subdomains for corporate accounts
Problem to solve
Something I have seen other tools do, including GitHub, is [the ability to] create a subdomain for corporate accounts. A problem that happened here was one of my users had a personal GitLab account and the SSH keys didn’t work as expected because the domain is always gitlab.com
as opposed to say westgate.gitlab.com
. We are able to get around it, but I think a lot of benefit could be gained from using sub-domains instead of just groups.
Target audience
- Sidney, Systems Administrator, https://design.gitlab.com/research/personas#persona-sidney
Further details
- Provides parity with similar SaaS solutions, such as GitHub
- Known paradigm, easy to adopt for an organization new to GitLab
- Simplifies and enhances creation of business hierarchies and associated membership (Groups and Subgroups within subdomain)
Proposal
For a corporate account - Bronze, Silver, or Gold - provide the ability to create a subdomain within Gitlab.com.
What does success look like, and how can we measure that?
