Assign existing commit from other repository to issue.

Problem to solve

I have a group with multiple repositories in it. Sometimes I forget to add the group/repo#1234 type tag to the commit message and so the commit is not linked after being pushed.

Target audience

  • Sasha, Software Developer, https://design.gitlab.com/research/personas#persona-sasha

Further details

Keeps cross-repository issues and commits linked properly.

Proposal

If I type an SHA of a commit from the current repository into an issue it automatically links it up. I can't type the SHA of a commit from another repository in my same group and have it linked. When I'm having a senior moment and forget to add the proper group/repo#num tag to my commit then it's not possible to link it.

What does success look like, and how can we measure that?

Success would be somehow being able to write the SHA of a different repository's commit, from within the same group, to an issue item.
