Prioritization/stack ranking of issues is persisted per board (other people's prioritization of issues do not impact issues in my board)

Problem to solve

When communicating cycle priorities with my team, I want my board to reflect the most recent refinements I have made, so that my team is completing the items that help us progress toward our goals.

  • Personas like Parker are having to refine their board at least once a day, sometimes more often, with the sole purpose of making sure the cards (issues) in their board are still stack ranked in the order they last left them. Often other users will move the same issue in another board, causing Parker’s board to become unrefined and no longer the SSOT for the team. Often times users don't know exactly why this is happening so it lowers trust and makes them feel like Boards do not "work" properly.
  • The risk here is that teammates like Sasha will work on issues that are not the highest priority.
  • When boards aren’t functioning as intended- it also causes users to rely on other tools such as a Google Docs, or even an issue- which they have full control of and feel like less overhead to maintain.

🎯 Insights from Dovetail

they're in the wrong order. I wonder who moved them last, which is also really aggravating. Cause you don't really know why I did this.

I'll then go look at it in dev and make sure they didn't pull from the top of it when it was in the wrong order. I'm working in the wrong priorities. So boards are supposed to be prioritized except that doesn't actually work

But if he drags things up and down there, it changes this board and changes, priorities, right? So that's hugely problematic for the engineering team, which is why we generally come in here and just make sure that this is still in priority order.

board order is super finicky and will randomly change on me and I have to come and be like, Oh, don't know. And I have to reorder things every so often.

solve my priority problem because I can rank them. And that works for me when it doesn't reorder randomly.

Intended users

User experience goal

A user's effort in prioritizing and refining a board is respected. A board is a SSOT.

Proposal

Issue priority is persisted by board and not relative to other boards or lists.
