UX: Add single sign-on to the SaaS trial registration page
Problem
When users want to register for GitLab and start a .com trial they have to complete 2 forms, registration, and trial. This creates a more complex flow and drastically increases the time to access the product. We could do a better job leading users to product value.
Solution
Use SSO to simplify the trial registration process. SSO is already implemented in the "classic" registration process, we should leverage this. For a start we could provide one or 2 SSO option, Google and GitHub, it seems they are the preferred one for existing GitLab users, this might be a good indicator of the most popular option for unregistered users.
Input data
- Signup flow
- Usage of SSO in the .com registration page
- Preferred SSO method for current GitLab users (1year old data).
Solution Validation
We will validate the solution using A/B testing and monitoring any qualitative feedback that we can get from external sources or through the GitLab forum.
