Extended tooltip for comment links (to issue, merge request, epic): Discovery

Problem to solve

When hovering over a comment link to an issue, merge request or epic, we will soon display extended individuals tooltips. When linking to a comment however, the most important part is the actual content. There is an opportunity to enhance this via showing the actual comment to get more context without having to open the actual link.

Proposal

Let's enhance the tooltip by using a popover and display this additional information when hovering over comment links.

For either

• issues
• epics or
• merge requests,

we can reuse parts of their corresponding extended tooltip and show (a preview of) the comment in addition.

Further details

Showing the full tooltip plus comment might become very lengthy. We have to define which parts of the individual tooltips we want to display, and how to limit comment lengths and more complex comment structures.

What does success look like, and how can we measure that?

If a comment link based on either an issue or a merge request is shown, the extended tooltip should show relevant short information of this object, plus a preview of the actual comment.
