Rethink navigation-bar user menu
I think we have inconsistent choices in our current menu:
- If I try to click on my Name/username, it's not clickable.
- If I click in "Profile", I get redirected to my username slug (
/brodock
) - If I click into "Settings", I'm redirected to the "Edit Profile Page"
- There is no single click option to go to "Preferences" (where I can change themes and other "settings")
The reason why things are they way they are, is because of how our "User settings" page developed throughout the years. There is simply too many things you can do there. We could probably rethink that navigation choice as well (like making "Preferences" be the default route instead of "edit profile") page.
But with the intention of making a small iteration, I propose we start by improving the menu:
On the new proposal, the first item that show my name and username, should be clickable and get me to my profile (/broodck
).
The edit profile will bring me /profile
, and "Preferences" will send me to /profile/preferences
.
Ideally we would have the "Edit status" as something visually similar to how Slack and GH does:
