Advanced Global Search Content Gap Analysis-Identify valuable content to make available
As part of an effort for making Advanced Global Search more useful, we need to periodically do a gap analysis of content that would be useful to be returned on the Advanced Global Search experience.
Things to Consider
- Content is in the form of metadata, documents, and information in a document.
- We should not assume that all request will require an Indexing change. In some cases APIs that are already available could be used to provide information on the page and would not require nor be a good use case for indexing.
- The Content Gap analysis should include existing content available.
- As other areas of GitLab have grown how has the content changed. How will it change?
Primary Goal
- The Goal is just to Identify what users and customers will find helpful and what type of content it is.
Secondary Goals
- Identify Facet and Search navigation opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to enhance the source content. If is is mutually beneficial to add a specific piece of metadata.
- Identify enhancements to other ways users find information in GitLab.
- Identify Content that can be removed.
Steps after Analysis
- Build out Epics for each piece of content identified to include the following.
- Cost of operating. Storage estimates and I/O.
- Can the Same Solution be done in a more effective way.
- How will this impact Self-Managed
- What is the growth expected for the content area.
- Prioritize Content by Need, Cost, and Difficulty to implement.
