Add the Static Site Editor to the Product page of the GitLab Handbook
Problem to solve
The Static Site Editor is a relatively new feature and we need actual usage to inform our product direction. The GitLab handbook is a great candidate for dogfooding our feature and getting feedback from a large portion of the GitLab team. However, the site itself is more complex than most and we're not ready to fully support editing of every type of page.
Proposal
Even after we add support for the Static Site Editor in the Handbook, we should only surface the link to edit in a sub-section of the handbook. This will not prevent other pages from being opened in the Static Site Editor if the user knows how to format the URL properly. It will limit our initial audience somewhat and allow us to phase the editor into the handbook over time.
The target section for initial integration is the Product section. All pages in /handbook/product
should have a link to open them in the Static Site Editor.
Details
Note: The root of this section is a .html.md.erb
which is not an extension currently supported by the Static Site Editor. It will have to be supported if we intend to fully integrate with the GitLab Handbook.
