FY21-Q2 IACV - UX :: Improve autocomplete search results for issue sidebar items
Problem to solve
There are a handful of areas in the product where autocomplete search functionality doesn't seemingly produce more than 20 results when initializing the component. Entering search terminology only results in searching those 20 items unless the full, specific name is entered. If the item the user is searching for doesn't show in that list of 20, they will need to know the full name of the item in order for it to be located. This is primarily an issue with there are more than 20 results with the same characters as in the search.
Intended users

JTBD
When trying to locate and apply an assignee, epic, milestone or move an issue from within the issue view, the user occasionally struggles to locate the item in question due to limitations within the autocomplete/search functionality.
Proposal
-
MVC 1: use name
field instead ofname_with_path
field and usescope=project
from the search API -- https://gitlab.com/help/api/search.md#scope-projects-1 -- so the params would bescope=projects&search={::name}
Next MVCs if needed:
-
MVC 2: Add infinite search to results so that the entire list of contents is searchable but not putting too much weight onto performance. -
MVC 3: Improve relevance
