Require a confirmation step before the destructive Return to Site action in the Static Site Editor

Problem

The Static Site Editor has a button that takes the user back to the production site and is effectively a Cancel action. This destructive action is not indicated by the button placement, color, label, or any additional warning. The risk is that a user could lose a lot of time spent editing if the click this button without the actual intent to discard their changes.

Solution

  1. Provide a two-step action for navigating away from the Static Site Editor. This will likely be an alert message with clear description and actions.
  2. Re-consider the placement and color of the Return to site button

Details

The contents of the alert should be:

  • Title: Leave the editor?
  • Body: The changes you have made to the page will not be saved if you leave the editor before submitting.
  • Primary CTA: Leave
  • Secondary CTA: Continue editing
