Toggling 'Show whitespace changes' requires manual page reload

On a merge request, when the 'Show whitepspace changes' option is toggled the diff will dynamically reload. However, the content is not actually updated as expected. A full, manual page refresh is required to get the desired changes.

The GIF shows the behavior. Right after I toggled the setting you can see the content reload, but it looks the same. Then a few moments later I manually refresh the browser with cmd+r and the diff changes. The MR in this gif is !27162 (merged). Browser is Chrome.
