Issues added to epic via API do are not previewed in Epics and Issues tab on Epic page

Summary

Editing an issue to add it to an epic via the Issues API causes the issue preview to not show up in the Epics and Issues tab on the Epic page.

Steps to reproduce

1. Edit an issue vial the API to assign it to an Epic.
2. Navigate to the Epic and note that the issue is not previewed in the Epics and Issues tab.

What is the current bug behavior?

Issue is not previewed in Epics and Issues tab on Epic page when added to epic via Issues API.

What is the expected correct behavior?

Issue preview should show up.

I verified that this worked in 12.7.x but does not work in 12.8.1. Cache clear did not help.
