circle around logo works nice with small and roundish logos, but very bad with square or spiky/disformed logos
Gitlab adds a circle around the logo of a project or a group with a visible border which cuts off parts of the logo. This circle around logo works nice with small and roundish logos, but very bad with square or spiky/disformed logos.
Look at this example of a logo which looks ok with github, and looks questionable with gitlab when uploaded with lots of padding (as seen in the screenshot below) and which looks atrocious in gitlab with no padding (where notable parts will be cut off):
-
Gitlab (circle looks misplaced and strangely restricting, makes it look asymmetric and generally messes with logo by often cutting off some things):

As a result, I think the circle tries to hard to add a special note to the logo and should be removed in favor of a neutral, uncut display of the logo exactly in the full rectangle way it is uploaded (as seen on github).
