Allow to disable "Trending" tab and provide hierarchical project overview

(Notice: I merged GitLab accounts. Apparently, the only feature request I wrote with the other account got deleted as a result of that. So here I submit it again. Apologies for that.)
Description
We are managing our Git repositories at our University chair using GitLab and what we are missing is a proper overview of all repositories. We are not an Internet community and therefore we don't need any social media features in GitLab. Hence the Trending tab is of no interest for us and I would like to disable it. Right now when I want to get an overview of all repositories, I have to click on "Explore Projects" and then on "All" and then click again to sort by name instead of date. This is very annoying because whatever is in "Trending" (if there is anything at all) is not what I'm searching for in >99.9% of all cases and still it's always the default. It would be so much more convenient to get a list of all projects sorted by name right away.
Proposal
I therefore propose to add an option to disable social-media features such as the Trending tab or at least to make the All tab the default tab for all users. An option for the default sort order would also be great.
Generally, we also don't have so many repositories that it would be impossible to give a browseable overview of all repositories. We have about two handful of categories with about 5 to 50 repositories each. I guess only few company-internal GitLab installations host so many repositories that any navigation besides a search function would be infeasible. Therefore it would be also be nice if we could get a hierarchical view of all repositories, sorted by category and then name. This could either be implemented using dynamically expandable/collapsible categories or by separate paginated sub-listings for each category.
