Email reply truncated on body quote

A reply to an issue via email gets its body truncated on first quote (>-prefixed line). I replied to an issue comment by writing my text under original issue comment and when checked on the gitlab instance, I saw that the only text of my comment is "On 2016-08-02 User wrote..." and nothing else. The email with the reply has nothing before that text and the first text after it was a quote.
