Allow MR Author to approve MR if reassigned

We had a workflow where we had:

1. User 1 open an MR
2. Then the work/MR was reassigned to user 2
3. Once the work was done the original author could not approve the MR because they had been the original author.

Can this type of workflow be allowed? Basically if a Merge Request get's assigned to a new user, allow the original author to approve the Merge Request.
