Unable to mirror Linux mainline

The customer is trying to mirror the Linux mainline repo from https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git

I tried this on both GitLab.com and on a local instance of 8.3.4 and neither work. The import times out after a time in my local instance. On GitLab.com it spun on importing indefinitely. I had to go in the backend and delete the project.
