Clarify notifications for label subscriptions in email footer

Summary

After subscribing to a label, I'll get notifications when issues/MRs are created with that label. But as I understand it, that's the only notification I'll get and I'm not actually subscribed to the thread. But the footer in the notification implies otherwise. It gives me the option to unsubscribe from the thread even though I'm not actually subscribed.

You're receiving this email because of your account on gitlab.com. If you'd like to receive fewer emails, you can unsubscribe from this thread or adjust your notification settings.

Note that if the label is added after creation, then the footer is different, and more correct.

Proposal

  1. Have the footer make it clear why I'm getting the notification (e.g. because I'm subscribed to X label)
  2. Have the footer make it clear that this is the only notification I'm getting for this thread
  3. Have link to unsubscribe from the label (rather than the thread)
  4. Have link to subscribe to the thread

You're receiving this email because you subscribed to the CI label on gitlab.com. If you'd like to get further updates, you can subscribe to this thread. If you'd like to receive fewer emails, you can unsubscribe from this label or adjust your notification settings.

Side note: Personally, I think I'd rather auto-subscribe to all threads with labels I care about, but I assume this has already been debated and we decided on initial notification only.
