Web Performance tests from live traffic

Problem to solve

Customers are still complaining about poor site performance even after implementing testing. The team thinks that this is because something about the customer setup is outside what we are testing. They are changing the tests to match some customer info from logs but it would be nice if this happened automatically so they can just keep developing instead of tweaking the tests all the time.

Intended users

This feature will be used by Delaney and Parker who get improved performance from their project based on real user stats. As a result of that Sasha can spend time just developing features and releasing them and not looking at log data and updating tests.

  • Parker (Product Manager)
  • Delaney (Development Team Lead)

Proposal

Take browser data, location data, etc. from prometheus to create and/or update browser performance tests to represent the most customers, the slowest customers, the newest customers, or some other valuable slice of customers who may be having poor web performance.

What does success look like, and how can we measure that?
