MR remains open after code is merged when updating MR approvals

Summary

Merge requests remain Open after they are merged into master without any merge status when changing the settings of the repo to require approvals.

Steps to reproduce

  • Create a new repository
  • Create an MR
  • Update repository settings to require 1 approval for MR
  • Approve the MR and merge
  • Code merged into master but the MR is still open
  • Try to close the MR and get the same error about “Number of approvals must be at least that of approvals on the target project”

The MR is supposed to close once is merged.
