Release process: Create stable branch on 1st
Description
The docs team is making an effort to release versioned RC documentation to align with the RC releases on GitLab.com https://gitlab.com/gitlab-com/gitlab-docs/issues/268.
For this to work, we need to pull the relevant stable branches from all products:
- CE
- EE
- Omnibus
- Runner
From the above, only Runner has a different schedule and the stable branch is created on the 7th (as opposed on the 1st), as described in my findings https://gitlab.com/gitlab-com/gitlab-docs/issues/279.
Scenario:
- I'm a .com user and I'm using my own Runners.
- There's a Runner feature that relies on a change in GitLab and vice versa and it's merged on the 2nd. Then we release the first GitLab RC on the 5th.
- Does this mean that there will not be an RC for the Runner that enables that feature for .com users.
Proposal
Create the stable branch on the 1st of the month to align with the rest of the products and facilitate the RC release of docs on docs.gitlab.com.
