Automatic dependency update
Description
We are now using go modules to handle dependencies. https://github.com/renovatebot/renovate is a tool that provides automatic dependency updates for Go projects that use modules that can help us stay up to date on the dependencies. Constantly checking if we need to update a dependency is time-consuming, manual and something that most people end up forgetting. Having something automated that pings you, when a new version of a dependency is out, seems to be an easy way to retroactively update dependencies.
If we update dependencies frequently we end up saving time in the future where we have to do major upgrades every time because we ignored a dependency for a while.
Proposal
Looking at https://github.com/renovatebot/renovate#using-renovate it seems like it requires oAuth to install https://docs.renovatebot.com/install-gitlab-app/. The more ideal situation is to use a the self-hosted solution which wouldn't require us to give access to repositories.
Costs: Free for public repositories
