Feature Request - Official support for installing GitLab on Mac OS X and Windows

Description

Currently, Omnibus GitLab isn't officially supported on Windows Servers or Mac OS X. Additional customers and users could make user of the product if an easy to use binary installation method was provided for these platforms.

  • Windows Server Support
  • Mac OS X Support
  • The ability to patch versions that have been installed without loosing data.
  • A landing page for users to download the latest client (And archived versions) of Gitlab for respective platforms.
  • Documentation for all applicable use cases/features and platforms.

Proposal

This issue was originally listed on the about.gitlab.com website as a missing feature. It should be available on all mentioned platforms with suitable install types. These include:

  • MacOS
  • Windows OS

There should also be an easy to use feature that can upgrade the install to a more recent version of Gitlab as and when needed. Currently for other Unix platforms this can be tracked under https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/22560
