Issues with Integrated Chat
Now that Gitter is part of the family, it would be great to integrate their well made chat solution into our well made issues.
Stackoverflow has this feature that when you type too many comments it starts a chat. Which I think would clean up our comment section.
Currently our comment section is almost impossible to follow. The reason you can read the comments in Stackoverflow and easily find the solution is they trimmed out the crap. The comments are only what needs to be written. Any chit-chat discussion should happen in chat. Final decisions should happen in comments. So that it's easier to read. But chat should be saved permanently too. This is why we need comments for the most important content so it's easily readable and grok-able. And chat for the chit-chat, the back and forth.
Gitter already can accomidate this. They have many ways we could do this.
- By pulling out the chatting feature and integrating it into GitLab.
- By using their sidecar feature.
I propose a feature that would look something like this (obviously to be much better looking thanks to UX):
Similar to how gmail does it to switch to different sections in the sidebar.
I have seen the beauty that is the Gitter source code. I know that we could modularly pull in the beautiful chat into our source code.
