Wiki Git Access and general wiki features
Hi there,
we're playing around with the wiki at the moment. As our main projects comes to the first release we want to intensly use the wiki for our main documentation of the project.
Currently we have a lot of pages in the wiki without an structure of folders or something like that.
Then I installed the gem gollum
and checked out the wiki repository of our project. Our goal was to use the features gollum provides and create a well structured and organized project documentation.
After some testing I found out, that this is not possible. The main question we ask ourselves is: Why should we use gollum and what advantages do we have of it instead of the Gitlab editor?
At the moment, we cannot answer this question. This is mainly due the fact that gollum provides a lot more features than the gitlab wiki. Some of these are:
- Sidebar / Header Feature in Gollum: does not work with gitlab
- Different Markdown Syntaxes in Gollum and Gitlab: that is really annoying!
- Missing features like TOC
So I ask you, why should we use gollum? I want to start a discussion about the wiki in Gitlab. I really love Gitlab and working with it helped our company a lot (we even prepare to switch from jenkins to GitLab CI), but the wiki feature isn't as much helpful as we need it.
We see currently two choices: either wait for extending the wiki features in gitlab or build up an own wiki outside of gitlab.
I really appreciated for your answers!
Martin
